Ladybirds on Patrol

Bridgette finished this quilt just before Christmas, it is a Natalie Ross pattern called Ladybirds on Patrol.

It's a jelly roll background with additional fabric for side borders, binding and to applique the vine, flowers and ladybirds.

It was pretty quick to put together and looks great.

Third Thursday Evening of the Month

Hi Everyone,

This year we have started an evening meeting time. The third Thursday evening of the month.

For our first evening - February 17th we were thrilled to have 10 people join us for an evening of patchwork. It was fun to catch up with members we havent seen for ages and discover new patchwork friends.

We are hoping to continue this through the year, opening the CWA Hall from about 5.30pm until 9.00pm.

Kay has finally finished the King log cabin that she has been making for her son for Ben & Becca. It has taken 18 months from start to finish, as she had to stop with the handquilting through summer because it was way too hot to handle. Kay sandwiched it with wool wadding, and backed it with polar fleece.

Wee Waa & District Quilters Bi-Annual Quilt Show

Dear Patchworkers & Quilters,

Have you been stitching?

We hope so because the Wee Waa & District Bi-Annual Quilt Show is on again and we are asking for your help.

We are looking for things to display- quilts, table runners, cushions, potholders, anything that might be a piece of patchwork or quilting made since 2007 or not previously hung in the Wee Waa & District Quilt Show.

The event has been scheduled for Friday 18th and Saturday 19th of September in the grounds of The Little House on Rose, Wee Waa. Once again Wendy Knight of the Patchwork Shed will be running a stall and the Wee Waa
Hospital Auxiliary will have refreshments available.

With all proceeds going to the Wee Waa Hospital Auxiliary it is your
contribution to the display that makes this event a great success. So please, send out the word to your friends and family, finish those WIPs and UFOs so we can hang them in the Wee Waa & District Quilters Bi-Annual Quilt Show.

Entry information will be available closer to the date.

Quilts on the Double - 9th & 10th May

In conjunction with the Cotton Fibre Expo Judy Hooworth is offering a two day workshop called Quilts on the Double.

It will be held in the ACE rooms at Narrabri (old electoral office) with a cost of $125 of which there is a non-refundable $50 deposit. (returned if the class is cancelled).

Registration and payment can be made at the Patchwork Shed no later than April 17th. The class numbers are limited to 15.

Quilts On The Double

Explore the possibilities of maked two totally different quilts from one set of simple cutting and sewing!

You will begin with some easy strip piecing, then make some diagonal cuts to give you two sets of triangles. After this start, the fun begins as you arrange these triangles to make two quilts. You will see how to create different patterns by arranging the triangles in different ways, and the amazing possibilities thast can result. You will enjoy discovering alternative designs to find the ones that work best foryour set of fabrics.

There are many, many possibilities for each quilt, and the designs work especially well with striped fabrics as all kinds of Log Cabin style patterns can be made.

There there is more!

A third set of leftover triangles may be used to make a bonus small quilt.

The basis of the quilts is groups of fat quarters or fat eighths. This class can help you use up some of your stash!

Welcome back from your Christmas Break. Hope everyone is well rested because we have a huge year ahead.

The Wee Waa Show is Stepping Back in Time to celebrate their 75th anniversary. The Patchwork Section is running a challenge for the theme. For details please contact Gladys.

The Cotton Fibre Festival is on again this year and they have invited Judy Hooworth to run a quilters tutorial. There will be more details in a later post.

The Wee Waa & District Quilters Show is in the pipeline for September this year. So search your cupboards and get busy finishing those UFO's ready for a mighty display...

Dont forget memberships are due and the next meeting should be the 26th March.

We had a lovely time at the Cuttabri Wine Shanty where we celebrated Christmas with a luncheon for the last meeting of the year. Show and tell was great and here are the pictures

Can you believe how quickly the year has passed by. Already it is time for the Christmas Luncheon, the last meeting of the year.

Invitations are being mailed out as we speak. The arrangements are made so the club will be paying for your meals. All you need to do is RSVP by Monday 24th November and turn up on Saturday 29th November at 11.30am.

Dont forget.......this year for the Christmas Swap bring a suitably wrapped fat quarter - only one - which will be exchanged via the Santa Basket. No need to find a gift......use something from your stash, or, if you really can't part with anything you already have, the Green Door Craft shop sells them for $2.50.

Hi Everyone
Can you believe it is September already!!!! Lots to do before the year ends!!!!
Great to see all those members returned from tripping around. Looking forward to seeing the photos and hearing the stories.

Xmas Luncheon.
We do realize that it is still a few months from Christmas but plans take time to put in place so we are asking if you have any ideas or preferences for what you might like to do to celebrate the close of the 2008 Patching year.

There are a few suggestions in place already and your comments are invited.

1.How do you feel about a weekend luncheon this year? We usually have our function on a patchwork Thursday but we have so many members who are presently working during the week, we are wondering if a Saturday or Sunday would be a better option.

2. Is there a particular place you would like to go? Or, alternatively is someone eager to invite us to their place?

3. Catering or do it ourselves? If you would like a catered affair what/who do you suggest?

4. If we go ahead with a weekend perhaps we should set a date soon so we don’t get caught with everyone else’s parties…….any preferences?

Well that’s all the heavy stuff out of the way……..let’s talk about gifts.

Most years we bring a gift for under $10. This year a suggestion was made that instead of trying to buy something we go to our scraps and stash and make an ATC (artists trading card) which is essentially a piece of work about postcard size. It could be a miniature quilt or a piece of fun. On the back we might write in pigma pen “Merry Christmas 2008 Country Sew N Sews” and all sign. They get dropped into a box and we get to blindly pick out another person’s work to keep.
The idea is to have some fun with fabric. Create something that is small and quick, we don’t have to spend anything on it and if we have fun with it then it says something about ourselves. We then give it away with Christmas spirit…….

What do you think? Let us know if you are interested in doing this.

Once you have visited these blogs the question to ask is – would you be interested in having a blog for the Country Sew N Sews? We could all have the ability to add items of interest, photographs and such. It would be a way for the travelers and less frequent attendees to keep in touch with what the rest of us are doing. Also a way for us to find out what they are doing.

There are various options to consider with this including privacy issues. The blog can be set up so that only our members have viewing and/or editing access or we could have an open door policy, or a level of somewhere in between the two. My (J.O.W’n) preference is for viewing access to be open and editing access to be limited to our members, provided we are mindful not to use full last names on the site. This gives us the opportunity to interact with the myriad of patchworkers around the world who also blog.
The girls from Narromine tell me their members were very shy about their site in the early stages but as they got to see it develop with pictures of their work they now really enjoy the entire process.
What do you think ladies? Are you keen enough to give it a go?

Borderlicious Round 3

We only had a couple of us at Patchwork today, but it was great to have a visit from Wendy's Mum.......and Wendy of course.

As the next meeting would be almost 2 weeks into June it was decided to draw the Borderlicious Round 3 today 29th May.....to give everyone a good two months before Round 4.

Wendy's Mum did the honours and the next round is APPLIQUE..

Good luck everyone......perhaps we could try for a show and tell on the challenge sometime in July.

Kantha Workshop and Bayeaux Stitch

Hi Everyone,

Well the embroidery guilds stitchery workshop was an eye opener. Soooooo simple to do yet so effective.

Carolyne Sullivan taught us how to embellish silk using folk art paints and crayola fabric crayons and then turn our artwork into artquilts by using Kantha Stitch to "quilt" layers and create movement behind the designs. Amazingly simple.!!!!!! Amazingly effective!!!!

On the Sunday Carolyne taught Bayeaux Stitch and once again showed us that the simple techniques can give us some of the most effective artworks......

A wonderful weekend has had by all. Thankyou to the Narrabri Embroidery Guild for making it possible.

Hi Everyone,

Well its been a busy first quarter of 2008. Quite a few of our members have been tripping around and not just the site seeing type. Sue T and Chris plus others managed a great time away at the Gold Cost Quilt and Craft Fair, spending up big on lots of goodies. A big thank you to everyone who managed to get the hall open on patchwork days.

The Moree Quilt Hanging was worth a look. Of particular interest to me was the 3 dimensional sunflower and the quilt centre of hydrangea flowers made from a variation of Suffolk puffs. All in all a nice display.

Borderlicious is moving along. A big welcome to Judy E and Judy D who have decided to join us in the challenge. The second border was drawn by Dianne and is Flying Geese.

Your rounds are as follows: Medallion Centre, First Border—Stars; Second Border-Flying Geese and the next drawing is on June 12. If anyone is interested we could have a show and tell in July to see how we are managing.

Don’t forget the Wee Waa Show is just around the corner. There is a challenge out with a $50 prize to make the most interesting apron. Could be lots of fun…..

An invitation has been given to the Country Sew n Sews for the Embroidery Guilds Workshop being held on May 24 and 25. Information is included with this mail out. The Workshop Tutor is Carolyn Sullivan and will be on Kantha Leaves and Bayeaux Stitch
